Customer Review: Great coffee for the Senseo!
This coffee is infinitely better than the Douwe Egberts coffee that comes with the Senseo. I like my coffee black - no cream, sugar, or anything else, so I like to really taste my coffee and can spot bad coffee right away.

No bitterness, much smoother, and stronger than Douwe Egberts coffee. Also, each pod makes an 8 ounce cup versus 4 ounce per Douwe Egberts pod. The pods are individually wrapped, and you can smell the freshness when you tear open a pod packet; when I opened a Douwe Egberts packet - there was only a faint smell versus the strong, fresh smell from these packets.

I have even - accidently - made 2-8oz cups of coffee with ONE of these pods - and the second cup wasn’t bad (a little weak, but not bad - some folks that prefer weaker coffee would have thought it was great).

I have tried four of BetterPods’ varieties, Kona, French Roast, Columbian, and Sumatra Mandheling - with the French Roast being my favorite due to my preference for a darker roasted coffee - but all being equally great otherwise. I think I am going to throw away the Douwe Egberts pods that came with my Senseo, or find some other non-beverage use for them.

I have also made espresso using Ecopads and the Senseo’s 1-cup mode with some Starbuck’s Espresso Roast… not quite as strong as a true coffee house espresso, but very good nonetheless, and much easier to setup than my old home-brew espresso machine… Now if BetterPods would only come out with an espresso roast (hint-hint)!

Customer Review: Great, Hot Coffee, but a few warnings…
I read a lot of reviews before deciding to purchase this coffeemaker. The most popular aspects of this product seemed to be that there was no carafe to wash, and that it kept a good amount of coffee hot for quite awhile. A lot of people were really pleased with how it looked in their kitchens, as well.

We’ve had ours for a few months now and enjoy it a lot. It really does make excellent coffee, and can keep it very hot without burning it for an impressive amount of time. In fact, you can program how long you want to keep the internal warmer on. Once the warmer turns off–and it makes a few beeping noises to signal this–the coffee cools down fairly quickly.

I’m not thrilled as most with how it looks–in fact to me it looks like it is missing something!–but that’s not a big issue for us.

This is what I’ve learned after owning it for awhile: (1) While this machine is marketed as a 12-cup coffeemaker, it makes the same amount as most 10-cup makers. This is because this maker’s cups are considered 5 oz, where as usually a cup (of coffee) is 6 oz. So, you get 12 5 oz cups with this one, or 10 6 oz cups with most others. (Keep this in mind when determining your coffee to water ratio–it took us a while to get it right). Anyway, do not expect to be able to make more coffee than you can with most other makers.

(2) There is no carafe to clean, but there are still 3 separate pieces that must be removed and cleaned each time. I don’t find the “no carafe” feature to be that big of a boon.

(3) Others have mentioned this a lot: you cannot fit a very tall cup under the spout. My husband has a shorter than average commuter mug, and not only does he have to slide out the grate, he also has to pick the whole coffeemaker up to fill his cup. I would say that you probably could not use one of those trendy tall, slim mugs even, without having to remove the grate.

That said, I am a big coffee snob and I LOVE this coffee maker! I like my coffee really hot, and that’s just what I get. And it makes very yummy coffee, which was our biggest concern. It’s kinda fun to place your mug on the little “X” on the grate (to center it), and then push the lever to fill your cup.

I would definitely buy this again.

Customer Review: Goodbye Carafe!
My in-laws had one of these and after using it I bought one for myself. It is easy to clean, has a built-in timer and best of all the last cup of coffee doesn’t get that burned flavor anymore. It comes with it’s own filter so you won’t need paper filters anymore. It also has a charcoal filter in case you have hard water. The only drawback is that it is designed for regular coffee cups. A large to-go mug won’t fit under the dispenser.

Customer Review: No plastic shall touch your lips!
The great thing about this mug is that when you drink out of it, it is not the plastic lid but the ceramic cup itself that touches your mouth. That’s rare, and very welcome. I truly dislike the taste and feel of plastic when I’m drinking good coffee, the great beverage of the world.

No, the lid is not airtight (as one other reviewer complained), but it doesn’t need to be. I don’t know about most of the rest of you, but I don’t turn my travel mug upside down or swing it around to the beat of the classical music on my car radio when there’s coffee in it!

The lid is a plastic disk that fits into the indented area you see near the top of the mug; then you turn it to secure it. The disk has a little half-moon cut out of it to allow the coffee to come out.

It’s true that the ceramic could be slightly sturdier, though that hasn’t been a problem for me. But the design is simple, even elegant, and let’s you drink out of a real cup when you’re traveling.

The ceramic is slightly cheap and the lid doesn’t fit properly so it’s kind of pointless because it is a travel mug! The cobalt blue is a nice colour. I bought another mug through Creative Ventures through Amazon and it was cheaper and the quality was much better.

Customer Review: Best Coffee Maker I’ve Used…this is my second one
A friend gave us one of these coffee makers for Christmas a few years ago. It has made excellent coffee every day and finally seems to be wearing out. I ordered another for the time the other coffee maker quits working. I like the Bunn method because the water stays hot and makes coffee fast and it’s not sitting on a warmer so it doesn’t get burnt while you’re having your first cup or two. If you want a cup before it quits brewing, simply open the top flap, pour your coffee without drips, and close the flap to finish brewing. The carafe is insulated but it doesn’t keep as hot as Thermos. If you like it really hot it’s easy to heat in the microwave oven. We neglected to clean the insides of the brewing area of the coffeemaker for years, due to being busy, and when I recently cleaned it, using the brush, there was no residue of any kind. Amazing. I saved a lot of money by checking the Internet. I ordered from Amazon because I got the best price. That is usually the case, so I order a lot from Amazon.com.

This is our second BUNN ThermoFresh Coffee Brewer. After being spoiled for two years at home with the speed of brewing, my husband and I decided to purchase another one to keep in our motorhome; so on crisp autumn morings there would literally be no longer than a 3 minute wait to start sipping piping hot coffee! The unit is pricy but worth every cent in our opinion.

Customer Review: Coffee snob: Happy at school/work
I bought the AeroPress for use at my MBA program to bypass the overpriced coffee from the shop with long lines. The coffee is excellent, and that is coming from a complete coffee snob; I will face withdrawal symptoms rather than drink crap coffee.

I keep my AeroPress in my locker in a little bag and use water from the electric kettle in the break room. The accessories, coffee, and extra filters fit inside the small bag easilly. I actually rinse and reuse the filters many times; I have been using the same one for about two weeks now.

I love the little device and am going to order another to leave at home. I am going to put my thermos Cuisinart with grinder and timer in the garage, and just keep an electric kettle and AeroPress for all of my coffee needs. It is actually faster and easier than traditional methods, with better outputs.

Customer Review: Sound theory, put into practice.
There’s an interesting chart about coffee in Harold McGee’s On Food and Cooking: The Science and Lore of the Kitchen. It shows how the fraction of coffee solids extracted depends on the grind and the extraction time (with various brewing methods as data points). These two factors, together with the water temperature, completely determine how good a given coffee tastes.

The great thing about the AeroPress design is that it allows the careful user to control all three variables, and the most easily accessed region of the parameter space makes a very nice cup.

The promotional literature emphasizes that the AeroPress produces coffee with lower acidity. This misguided aim is perhaps why it recommends an overly low water temperature of 175°F. Acid is an important part of good coffee. As emphasized frequently by the folks at sweetmarias.com, arabicas have higher acidity than robustas, and Kenyans, known for their bright acidity, rate highest in the cup.

If the acidity of your coffee is bothering you even when it is brewed at a reasonable 195°F and not overly extracted (to the point of bitterness), then the bean is at fault, not the brewing method.

Customer Review: burns up in 6-12 months
First off, I LOVE the coffee this machine makes, and the thermal carafe is GREAT–no burnt coffee taste you get with the burner plate models. That said, I’ve gone thru two of these coffee makers in 17 months and won’t get another. With the first, after 6 months the pre-brew function timer stopped working. I didn’t use it much, so decided to live without that. But 4 months later it stopped brewing entirely–it would “beep” it was done, but no coffee had brewed It was replaced–I had option of going with another brand/model but I stayed with this one, b/c, as said, I LOVE the coffee and the thermal carafe. Now replacement, after 4 months, stopped working. But this time I was there when it went bad–was brewing a second pot of coffee and smoke started pouring out the top of the machine. It smelled like an electric fire. I turned it off, unplugged, and poured cold water in the back, just in case that would help. After that, it is dead–I tried turning it on again to see what would happen (we really wanted coffee), but it just “beeped” that it was done, with no brewing. I don’t know what burnt up, but I won’t risk an electric fire with another one. I’ll miss the great coffee & the thermal carafe, so hope Cuisinart figures out the problem and fixes it for future models. A coffee pot at this price should last a few years at least.

Customer Review: could be better
This is a good machine for the money and the coffee tastes good from this machine and stays hot in the carafe for about four hours. The idea of the carafe is good because the coffee stays hot and tastes better because it doesn’t burn on a warmer. There are several design problems however. 1. it poors too slowly out of the carafe. 2. the filter door is tricky to open. 3. the carafe top doesn’t screw on easily. 4. the “poor while you brew” feature is touchy and coffee leaks because the spring designed to stop the coffee flow seems weak. I’ve had the unit for about three months and the writing on the control panel is wearing off.

Customer Review: Great taste and saves coffee
I have used this filter for six months or so and love it! Coffee tastes much richer and darker with better aroma. As well as paper filter, I am saving coffee, too. Although I do not measure how much coffee bean I use every time I make coffee, the amount of my coffee consumption has reduced by 10 to 15% without compromising taste.

I have to admit that this filter leaves very fine sediments in the cup and cleaning takes as much water and time as paper filter. But the benefits of this filter easily outweigh those minor drawbacks.

Ordering this item and getting it quickly was no problem even great. However, then things went south. Upon receiving the filter I realized that either they or I had ordered or sent the wrong filter. Upon reviewing the order I realized that I hadn’t paid attention that the filter I ordered was only for a two cup machine while I had errantly thought I was ordering a 12 cup filter. Upon realizing the mistake I contacted the sellers to which I have never received a response. It cost me over $20 for this item and all I wanted to do was send them the two cup filter and have them send me the 12 cup filter. Too simple!

Customer Review: Great when it works
I purchased this roaster, the FreshRoast Plus, a little over a year ago. In that year I used it roughly every two days and after a bit of a rough start had no problem getting just the roast I wanted. Thats not to say that you can just turn the dial and get the same roast each time. Slightly different amounts of beans or different types could require 2 to 3 minutes less to roast often because the first crack was so exothermic that it caused a very rapid second crack. Still, with some experience and good timing the variables were easy to adjust for.

Unfortunately, just days after the 1 year warranty expired, the fan on the roaster started making strange noises and a couple roasts later a small flame shot through the center of the roaster. Only being able to get a year’s worth of roasting and risking a major fire in the process more than outweigh the initial savings. I have since bought an I-Roast as a replacement. It roasts more at one shot but is much louder and smokier.

Customer Review: Very poor design
The pot spout was designed by the dribble cup inventor. When filling the tank, it is impossible to get the water into it without spilling water on the counter. The shape of the spout is what causes the problem.

If you like luke warm coffee as my wife does, you will love this machine. When I read the instructions to determine where there may be a temperature adjustment, they say to heat the pot by filling it with very hot water and rinsing it before starting the brew! I have to do this every time I make coffee just to avoid a tepid cup. They know this is a serious problem yet attempted to fix the poor design with consumer intervention.

I bought this because it had good reviews and came from a good manufacturer. Krups needs to remove this from the market.

This coffee maker is the best–perfectly brewed coffee every time with a carafe that keeps the coffee hot forever. The automatic turn off means you don’t have to worry about a thing. I wouldn’t own another, in fact I own two of these.
